Candi Derry

Driver Bio:

  • University of Maryland graduate Candi Derry began her racing career some 18 years ago at 75-80 Dragway behind the wheel of a family friend’s junior dragster - she was hooked. Candi then convinced her father to buy her a junior dragster of her very own which she competed with for the following few years. After her 16th birthday Candi decided she wanted to step-up from the junior dragster ranks into a full-size dragster, as she had seen a few local junior dragster competitors do. From then on Candi, now 28 years old, has devoted much of her free time to competing at NHRA and IHRA events up and down the East Coast. After purchase of her 2012 Miller Race Cars dragster, there was little debate on where to have it painted.

    “Since Maryland International Raceway [MIR] is our primary track we were lucky enough to see many of Jerron's paint jobs. His attention to detail is what really stood out to us. He is great to work with especially when it comes to the design and color scheme of what we had in mind. His work stands apart from other paint jobs, and to us that was extremely important,” explained Derry.

    When asked about her favorite part of her Imagine That Customs paint job, Candi explained, “My favorite part is the color scheme. When I ordered the car it came with a silver body - I was tempted to keep the entire car silver since it looked so clean. When talking to Jerron I made sure that he knew how much I liked the silver. Sure enough he brought the silver to life, and added a combination of black, gray, white, silver, deep pink, and blue.”

    Candi’s sister Chelsea also enjoys spending her weekends at the races. Chelsea (24) followed the same progression as her older sister - from junior dragsters to big cars.

    “Once my 16th birthday rolled around I made a pass in Candi’s dragster. Candi taught me everything I know by going over every aspect of the car which helped me get used to all the mechanics and electronics. I now race alongside Candi at every event,” Chelsea stated.

    Candi and her sister Chelsea are looking forward to closing out the 2012 season with a strong finish in the Raider ET Challenge points standings where Candi currently sits in the top 5. Also on tap for the Derry family is a trip to the 5 Day Bracket Championships at Palm Beach International Raceway where they will take both racecars and compete for a $10,000 prize each day!
